Job Purpose

  • Administer the business and financial affairs of the FBCP in accordance with generally accepted management and accounting principles.
  • Perform general administrative functions.
  • Maintain church financial records for receipt and disbursement of church funds.
  • Provide administrative and physical support to staff and program directors.
  • Oversee Risk Management, and technology functions.

Duties and responsibilities


  • Assist in the development and implementation of business policies to effectively manage the business functions of the FBCP
  • Maintain all business records of the FBCP including financial records, personnel records on all staff, church legal documents and insurance matters
  • Maintain an inventory of church property for insurance, valuation and asset control Implement and maintain a long-range plan for updating equipment, furnishings and software
  • Manage energy use in the church to make it as efficient as possible
  • Keep the master church calendar and monitors for conflicts
  • Monitor nominating cycles of the church to ensure nominations are made in timely fashion
  • Serve as resource person, advisor and ex-officio member of assigned committees
  • Coordinate and provide administrative leadership to assigned committees as requested
  • Work with staff, committees and other lay leadership to establish and implement FBCP policies
  • Work with staff, building and grounds committee and other committee chairs to develop annual budget for maintenance, equipment and supply needs
  • Be available to cooperate with lay leadership and other lay members in their ministry responsibilities
  • Coordinate various work assignments for ministerial and church staff
  • Supervises assigned personnel, conducts annual performance appraisals, and makes recommendations for appropriate personnel action
  • Coordinate with Director of Communications and Outreach to provide timely and accurate communications with the congregation
  • Coordinate office activities with the ministerial staff and their assistants
  • Coordinate schedules and activities of volunteers to ensure efficient operations for FBCP activities
  • Manage technology issues such as computers, telephone and security systems
  • Communicate effectively with staff, congregation and community members
  • Keep Executive Pastor informed of potential situations or unusual events
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities
  • Provide for a safe and secure workplace
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all matters
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff
  • Assist the staff in acquiring training to maintain and enhance job skills
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions as required
  • Prepare all required reports and maintains all appropriate records
  • Demonstrate support for the FBCP and its goals and priorities


  • Oversee the implementation of the financial policies and procedures of the church
  • Coordinate annual budget preparation and administer/monitor the approved budget and corporate funds
  • Supervise the receipt of all contributions and accurately report the financial business of the church monthly
  • Supervise petty cash management
  • Assist and support the Banking Committee Reconcile financial statements
  • Review checks for all payable items in coordination with Business Manager’s Assistant
  • Prepare annual corporation report
  • Ensure confidentiality of contribution records
  • Ensure all non-cash contributions are properly acknowledged
  • Receive and answer queries concerning financial matters from staff, committee and FBCP members
  • When authorized, represent FBCP to establish bank accounts, make investments and withdraw/transfer funds as directed
  • Serve as resource person regarding legal and business matters of the church in conjunction with church and lay leadership
  • Evaluate all budget requests based on justification, financial priorities, and historical data
  • Assist in the development and implementation of business policies to effectively manage the business and financial activities of the church
  • Monitor revenues and expenditures and make recommendations for budget amendments
  • Monitor vendors and make recommendations to maximize savings and mineralize costs
  • Supervise the preparation of budget amendments for submission to the Finance/Banking Committee
  • Oversee preparation of annual contribution statements ensuring confidentiality of all contribution records


  • Ensure appropriate job descriptions are in place for each FBCP position
  • Annually review job descriptions with Excutive Pastor and suggest revisions as needed
  • Serve as primary liaison to the employment agency
  • Maintain records on staff personnel and execute personnel policies
  • Maintain master file of staff flexible schedules, vacation, sick leave and personal days
  • Oversee processing of payroll and maintain payroll reports
  • Administer FBCP salary plan and benefits
  • Orient new employees in the area of human resources and FBCP policies
  • Oversee processing of payroll and maintain payroll reports OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED



  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management or accounting
  • Experience could be considered in partial substitution of education
  • Minimum of five (5) years of in financial management, church work preferred
  • Strong organization skills
  • Thorough understanding of nonprofit accounting, bookkeeping and financial management information requirements
  • Ability to use financial software associated with church financial record keeping
  • Good working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software
  • Ability to interact with congregation and the public in a professional manner best representing FBCP
  • Ability to pass credit and Level 2 background screening

Skills and Abilities

  • Require the ability to display thorough knowledge of church budgeting practices and generally accepted accounting principles, federal and state laws, administrative policies, Governmental Accounting Standards, financial and program cost accounting, reporting for churches
  • Require the ability to display knowledge of the principles and practices of management, supervision, and administration and the ability to apply this knowledge properly in work environments
  • Require the ability to evaluate accounting and financial procedures and to design and initiate methods, reports, and practices
  • Require the ability to prepare and complete accurate reports and statements of considerable complexity
  • Require the ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, verbal, or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables
  • Require the ability to use computers for word processing, accounting and presentation
  • Prefer experience with Shelby System Church Management & Office Suite

Working Conditions

Regular weekly schedule Sundays Saturdays when required

Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions: repetitive motion, hearing, speaking, stooping, and visual acuity




Starting base annual salary is $50,000 plus benefits.
