Ministry Assistant for Missions and Pastoral Care

Hours Requirement: 40 hours/week, salaried, exempt

M – 9am – 5pm
T – 9am – 5pm
W – 9am – 5pm
Th – 9am – 5pm
Fri – 9am – 5pm

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with education and experience

Supervised by: Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care

Job Description:

Missions

  • Support the Associate Pastor for Missions and Evangelism to help accomplish the ministries of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
  • Administrator of the Benevolence Ministry: interview individuals who need financial assistance and receive intake questionnaire; consult with Associate Pastor for Missions and Evangelism and process payments following established policy guidelines; keep timely and accurate records of financial gifts provided to recipients.
  • Support the Food Pantry in various tasks; overseeing the proper organization of the food pantry items and distribution.
  • Support Missions Saturdays in various ways.
  • Support mission trips in coordination with the Associate Pastor for Missions and Evangelism.
  • Support media content transfer (video and photography) from teams and/or individuals to the website, social media platforms, and print, in coordination with the Director of Communications.
  • Facility/room reservation for various ministry events or meetings.
  • Order of materials for various ministries.
  • Provide office support by answering incoming phone calls and greeting guests in the office in the absence of the receptionist.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pastoral Care

  • Provide daily assistance to the Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care.
  • Receive an email prayer needs to staff, deacons, and members as needed.
  • Update Ministers on the pastoral needs of the congregation and staff.
  • Advise the Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care on illnesses and deaths within the congregation.
  • Prepare and mail first-year anniversary cards for grieving families.
  • Maintain and update the Hospital and Nursing Facilities lists.
  • Assist the Pastoral Care Visitation Team with names and information needed for visits.
  • Meet with the Pastoral Care Visitation Team monthly to assist them as needed with information.
  • Maintain records of deaths in the congregation and prepare grief materials to send to the families.
  • Mail weekly Connecting Points to the Shut-Ins as requested.
  • Prepare correspondence sent out from the Pastoral Care Office.
  • Prepare weekly Prayer Need document for Connecting Point.
  • Serve as a backup to the front office by receiving incoming calls, greeting and assisting visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Ideal Candidate: • Demonstrates the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks accurately and by the deadline. • Displays a working knowledge of standard computer applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher. • Willingness and aptitude to learn Community Church Builder, EventU, and other software/applications that are used at MVBC. • Has effective verbal and written communication skills. • Demonstrates excellent planning, organizing, and time management skills. • Understands customer-service principles and practices. • Maintains confidentiality and practices discretion in carrying out the duties of the position. • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills including sensitivity, courtesy, and sound judgment. • Inter-relational skills to recruit, train, supervise, and lead volunteers on various teams. • Ability to relate compassionately and objectively to guests seeking benevolence assistance. • Passion for extending the Kingdom of God through the mission of the church and the church on mission.
