Position Description:

Sycamore Hills Baptist Church is seeking a full-time senior pastor, teacher, and visionary leader to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to rightfully divide the word of truth, to engage in pastoral care ministries, and to provide leadership in church life.

The candidate must follow the example set by Christ and must also exhibit the skills and knowledge to cultivate the spiritual well-being of the church and its members. The ideal candidate will be a leader with sound biblical doctrine as listed in Titus 2 and 1 Timothy 3:2-7.

Church Summary:

Sycamore Hills Baptist Church is an established neighborhood church in the southern part of Independence, Missouri. It is often stated at SHBC that we are “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” At the center of that purpose is a strong orientation to Bible study and the application of that study to everyday life. This emphasis is a common thread throughout every program of the church.

Sunday morning attendance at SHBC currently averages 120-140 with additional viewers online. In addition to the senior pastor position, there is a full time associate pastor of education and music and one part time youth minister. The recently retired pastor served at SHBC for over 28 years. The current associate pastor has been with the church for 6 years. The current minister of youth has worked with our youth since 2015. Beyond our ministerial staff there are two support staff members – the church secretary and the church custodian. The ministry of the church also includes a weekday preschool that is staffed mostly by church members and enrolls over 50 children each year.

Sycamore Hills Baptist Church meets for worship on Sunday morning and Sunday evening. Mid-week services include separate study groups for adults, children and youth. The style of worship at SHBC is a blended style that leans toward traditional.
