JOB DESCRIPTION:

MINISTRY PURPOSE:

The mission of First Baptist – Topeka is,Sharing Christ, Nurturing People. We believe this life change happens through a relationship with Jesus Christ. First Baptist is searching for a Pastor or Director of NextGen ministries who is passionate about sharing and showing this GoodNews with the next generation. The person in this full-time ministry role will provide leadership and oversight to students and their families.

REPORTS TO:

Lead Pastor

CORE RESPONSIBILTIES:

• Oversee children and youth Sunday School, Wednesday Family Night activities and worship programming
• Work with Children and Youth Education Committee and Youth Leadership Team to plan activities such as camps, youth group, special activities, short-term mission trips and fundraising
• Assist in organizing childcare for church activities
• Recruit, train, and multiply volunteers who assist with children and youth ministry activities
• Reach out to, and build relationships with children and their families in areas such as
  • First Baptist Church Childcare Center
  • Jardine Elementary and Middle School
  • Upward sports programming
  • Other children and youth in the community
• Partner with the entire family
  • Communicate well using email, social media platforms, church communications, and other outlets
  • Develop relationships with the entire family
  • Provide spiritual support(pastoral care)

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attend weekly team meeting with First Baptist staff members
• Attend monthly board meetings
• Attend monthly Children and Youth EducationCommittee meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A strong relationship with Jesus Christ and an understanding of the Christian faith
• A clear calling and passion to work with children, youth and their families
• (Preferred) a degree or background in ministry
• 2 or more years of experience in leading students, student ministry, children’s ministry or both
• Creativity and innovative thinking about ministering to the next generation
• Flexible and highly organized with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
• (Preferred) live in the Topeka area(Shawnee County, KS)
