Kelty's First Baptist Church in Lufkin, TX is seeking a full-time Lead Teaching Pastor.

The Lead Teaching Pastor demonstrates the centrality of the gospel of Jesus Christ to all matters of life and faith through preaching, teaching, mentoring and counseling, to the end that the body is equipped to minister to one another and disciples are being made. The lead teaching pastor ensures the church's mission is understood, communicated, and owned among the Elders, Deacons, leadership team, staff, and congregation through preaching, teaching, and leading in proclamation and ministerial care.

The Lead Teaching Pastor Will

  1. As an Elder:
    1. Provide ongoing overview for the Elder Body regarding the exploration and implementation of our vision.
    2. Maintain regular contact with all Elders and closely work with ministry leaders to ensure seamless leadership within all areas of ministry.
    3. Preach, teach, counsel, as needed and assign others as appropriate.
    4. Proactively model and implement creative ways to effectively communicate church-wide mission.
  2. As a Preacher and Teacher:
    1. Ensure the quality of expositional, biblical, gospel-centered preaching.
    2. Oversee the planning and scheduling of preaching at KFBC.
    3. Oversee content of Biblical teaching and ensure that those who preach are in sync with each message.
    4. Meet weekly with Worship Pastor to ensure coordination on Sunday services.
    5. Provide at least 80% of preaching at KFBC.
    6. Ensure that the Sunday sermon is conceptually prepared to share with Elders in the weekly Elder meeting.
    7. Meet with and develop new preachers through assessing their preaching and mentoring them to be more effective preachers.
  3. Member/Community Functions:
    1. Proclaim the gospel to church members and the lost world.
    2. Conduct funerals, premarital counseling, and wedding ceremonies, as able, sharing and delegating to others on the staff responsibilities in this area.
    3. Moderate Member’s Meetings.
    4. Mentor and assist in training deacons and ministry leaders for their responsibilities.
    5. Oversee church discipline matters and manage conflicts in the church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church.
  4. Other General Responsibilities:
    1. Should be ever conscious of the need for confidentiality
    2. Should exercise discernment and wise judgment.
    3. Cooperate with the Elder Body and other staff members in promoting the entire ministry plan of KFBC.
    4. Oversee and steward the church budget and policies.
    5. Have a heart for service to the local community as a church leader and volunteer.
  5. Education
    1. The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in divinity.
  6. Experience
    1. The ideal candidate will have five years or more ministry leadership experience with proven growth. The ideal Lead Teaching Pastor’s prior experience as a ministry leader will demonstrate and ensure appropriate theological, doctrinal, and administrative skill to fulfill this role.
  7. Personal Characteristics
    1. Maintain a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer, and meditation.
    2. Maintain proper priorities at home and be the spiritual leader to spouse and children, if married.
    3. Develop personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church.
    4. Financially support the work of ministries at KFBC through faith offerings and maintain wise stewardship over personal finances.
    5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Elder Body.
