The Minister of Children is responsible to the Senior Pastor and Associate Pastor of Discipleship for planning, coordinating, directing and evaluating the children’s ministry of the church.


  • Work with Associate Pastor of Discipleship, Children’s Council, parents, and age-group workers in planning, implementing and evaluating all programs of discipleship and activities for children birth through sixth grade.
  • Advise in the use of program materials, equipment, supplies and space by preschool and children’s groups in all program organizations.
  • Act as overseer of IBC’s “This I Know” Day School as the Day School Director will report directly to you.
  • Organize and promote at home discipleship materials for parents to use with their children.
  • Be responsible for all paid employees and interns who work directly under the Children’s Ministry.
  • Prepare the annual budget for the needs of the children and administer the approved budget according to policy. (All major children’s expenditures should be made in consultation with the Children’s Council and approved by the pastor.)
  • Must be willing to align all ministry programs and activities to work under the overall vision of the church.
  • Recruit, train, and equip children's ministry volunteers.
  • Attend all regular church services and other special services when possible.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the pastor.



Basic expectations of the church for this position include general qualities of Christian character, evidence of a calling to the ministry and particular strengths in the area of children’s ministry. The qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • A genuine conversion experience.
  • A commitment to and is in agreement with the Baptist faith and message 2000.
  • A sincere calling to children’s ministry.
  • A reputation that is above reproach.
  • Ability to lead others spiritually.
  • A willingness and ability to work on a team structured staff.
