Job Status: Full Time

Anticipated Time Commitment: 40+ Hours per week, 4 weekdays and Sunday, flextime available

Education: 4 year Bachelor Degree or equivalent in leadership and or technical field.

Experience: Relevant field experience; experience with starting & building technical team ministry in churches ideal.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and residence in greater Alexandria, VA area

General Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. Oversee all AVL during weekend services, some weekday events, and rehearsals for Sanctuary and Faith Activity Center events and events specific to multiple ministries.
  2. Oversee concerts and special events for AVL needs (includes weddings and other events/meetings)
  3. Oversee and research technical needs for creative elements used in services
  4. Responsible for all aspects of technical production. Oversees all media – including image magnification / ProPresenter, sound, lighting, live video filming/switching, stage prep, TV monitors & music systems, and other technical equipment.
  5. Coordinates and produces visual media for the Communications Director supporting each ministry on a regular basis.
  6. Assists with the promotion of events via social media.

  1. Develop, operate within, and manage budget for technical arts systems and equipment needs.
  2. Develop, submit and manage the purchases of technical equipment and services.
  3. Plan for future technology advancements and needs
  4. File and maintain maintenance records with serial numbers for all technical equipment within FBCA.
  5. See to the repairs and/or replacement of faulty equipment.
  6. Inspect systems and identify areas for improvement.
  7. Oversee portable sound systems used church wide. Schedule and approve use and train operators.
  8. Creates and maintains operations manual for media equipment, and systems documentation for the overall media ministry.
  9. Maintains all media and sound equipment. Restocks media related supplies and ensures back-up resources are on hand for quick turnaround (batteries, lamps/bulbs for lighting system and projectors, etc.)

Staff/Volunteer Interaction:

  1. Develop, train, recruit and lead technical arts teams that include sound, lights, video, computer graphics display, stage management, production and IMAG teams.
  2. Oversee and manage scheduling of volunteers in areas of sound, lighting, and video.

Planning & Coordination:

  1. Participate in planning and strategy meetings
  2. Participate in Weekend Service Pre and Post Service Review
  3. Coordinate w/ the appropriate leader for technical needs of events that occur, such as: Seasonal Productions, Guest Artist Concerts, Weddings, Classes, Conferences, and other events deemed necessary.
  4. Prepare audio operations technical infrastructure details for assigned services
  5. Direct stage set-up and tear down for all events

Website Support:

  1. Provide audio and video support to the communications director for the website and social media as required
  2. Stream all pertinent FBCA events on the web
  3. Handles weekly editing and production of sermon podcasts. Uploads to web in a timely manner.
  4. Test and prepare video/streaming audio operations systems and equipment for use

Production Duties:

  1. Responsible for all types of media recordings (CD and DVD) of all services and other requested events along with maintaining the highest level of post-production quality possible
  2. Video support for video filming, editing & production as needed.
  3. Handles design and layout of content used in image magnification / ProPresenter including background graphics, worship song lyrics, sermon support (sermon notes, misc. graphics (charts graphs, illustrations), scripture reference, etc),
  4. Edit music and sound effects for in house video production


  1. Good organizational and administrative skills
  2. Strong attention to detail skills to ensure accuracy
  3. Experience in worship production - This includes all duties required to lead and direct a production crew. (i.e. switching, graphics, shading, cameras, audio, lighting, etc.)
  4. Understands embedded audio signal flow and broadcast video standards
  5. Some experience with programing and operating a video switcher and camera crew through a live production
  6. Working knowledge of and capable of troubleshooting an HD/SD-SDI broadcast level video system
  7. Good understanding of all aspects of live IP video streaming technology and applicable IT and computer knowledge
  8. An understanding of digital workflow for audio and video.
  9. A strong working knowledge of both Mac & Windows OS and applications.
  10. Experience with video production & editing packages such as ProPresenter, Final Cut ProX, Sony Vegas, Planning Center.
  11. Strong knowledge of A/V/L systems
  12. Must be a proactive self-starter, creative problem solver and team player
