JOB DESCRIPTION:

Greetings, my name is Shane Mitchell and I am the Lead Pastor here at Calvary Baptist Church in beautiful, Winter Haven, Florida. Here at Calvary we are a family of servant missionaries sent to make disciples in all of life. Our mission is to lead people to follow Jesus, be changed by Jesus, and teach others to do the same. We believe that when Jesus told his apostles that he was going to “build his church and the gates of hell would not stand against it”, He wasn’t talking about a bunch of church buildings on every street corner competing against each other for market share or turf… No, he was talking about an ecclesia, a missional movement, that is fueled by the Holy Spirit, centered around the good news of Jesus Christ, and comprised of people who are learning together to submit all of life to Jesus… a people committed to learning to speak the gospel into the everyday stuff of life… all of this so that the knowledge of the glory of God would saturate the whole earth as the waters cover the sea.

To partner with us in this mission, we have been prayerfully searching for an Associate Pastor of Discipleship and Family Formation who shares in that same DNA. We expect that our next Discipleship & Family Pastor will be uniquely equipped to help us train new missional community leaders, equip current and future leadership in the areas of children and next-gen ministries, as well as help in the development of a leadership pipeline for raising up new leaders to serve in various ministries here at Calvary.

He should be a gifted teacher and visionary leader, having the experience of leading missional communities or small groups and thrive in teaching middle-school and high-school students. This pastoral position will help in developing the discipleship culture of Calvary Baptist Church by building a Next-Gen ministry with a gospel-centered foundation. By saturating the lives of both students and their parents in the gospel, we hope to teach them to live life on mission wherever they eat, work, learn and play, striving toward gospel renewal in all of life.
