JOB DESCRIPTION:
FBC Fairview Heights is looking for a unique combination role. The exact specifics will be determined based on the right candidate ("Who" first approach) for the church. The position will either be Associate Pastor of Worship & Students or Associate Pastor of Worship & Outreach/Discipleship. Interested candidates are welcome to apply and specify which you would be interested in.
The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students is a combination/hybrid role that is responsible for developing a comprehensive ministry through the church’s worship ministry as well as for developing a comprehensive ministry to students in junior and senior high. For both of those ministry areas, a high level of investment and mentoring is expected to develop future leaders. In addition, the Associate Pastor of Worship & Students will participate in general ministry assignments such as visitation, guest follow-up, benevolence, and other duties as assigned as part of the church’s overall mission and ministry.
Qualifications
1. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students should have a demonstrable and credible testimony of conversion as a follow of Christ. Additionally, there should be evidence of a clear call to ministry that has been confirmed by a local church.
2. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students should also have the appropriate training and education for this position (at least a Bachelors Degree) and be committed to ongoing/continuing education, whether formal or informal.
3. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students ideally should be qualified as an elder by Scripture in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. If the candidate has not been formally ordained, he should be willing to go through the process as part of his employment at FBC Fairview Heights.
4. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students should have adequate experience in ministry either in a vocational role or a volunteer/intern role that he has a grasp of ministry expectations and rhythms.
5. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students should be coachable, teachable, humble, and willing to do whatever it takes to effectively do the ministry.
6. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students should be a team player and strive to build chemistry with the Lead Pastor, the church staff, and the membership as a whole.
Primary Responsibilities
1. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students will develop a comprehensive worship ministry, seeking to glorify God and encourage the saints during worship services.
a. Plan, conduct, coordinate, and evaluate the Sunday morning services with excellence in a way that draws the congregation to God in worship and praise.
b. Recruit and develop volunteers who serve in a number of areas under the Associate Pastor of Worship & Students ministry area: These include praise team/vocalists, instrumentalists, orchestra, choirs as necessary, and AVL. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students should be able to train new volunteers on the AVL system and be able to troubleshoot problems.
c. Coordinate as staff liaison with the Amazing Grace (Senior) Choir for rehearsals and presentations.
d. Coordinate a rehearsal schedule for Sunday services that prepares those who will be leading to do so with excellence and proficiency.
e. Maintain the worship ministry budget and equipment, including special projects, expenses, and maintenance.
f. Coordinate with Lead Pastor for funerals, weddings, or other special events that may require worship music or presentations.
2. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students will develop a comprehensive student ministry, seeking to equip students in their faith and equip parents to be the primary disciple-makers.
a. Serve as part of the Sunday morning teaching rotation with Student Ministry volunteers while giving administrative oversight to the curriculum selection and implementation.
b. Oversee and serve as the primary teacher of Sunday Nights Together for students.
c. Develop a calendar of activities that foster fellowship among students, allow them to grow in their spiritual life, and connect them with others in the church. These include things like camp, mission trips, local events, fellowships, etc. The Associate Pastor of Worship & Students should avoid scheduling for the sake of being busy.
d. Regularly communicate with parents and the church at-large about the student ministry.
e. Recruit and develop volunteers to come alongside students and parents as part of the ministry. These volunteers should be evaluated in compliance with the church’s Child Protection Policy, including a comprehensive background check & training.
f. Connect with parents as the primary disciple makers of their students, partnering with them to encourage their discipleship & growth in Christ.
g. Maintain the student ministry budget and oversee expenses in connection with the Finance Administrator and the Finance Committee. This includes the submission of an annual budget for ministry.
h. Stay abreast of trends and best practices of student ministry and generational trends among students in order to best minister to students and to equip the church to best serve the next generation.
Other Duties
1. Serve as an ex officio member of the appropriate or assigned committees.
2. Attend and participate in staff meetings, serve on the Refocus Team, attend FBC Leadership Team meetings, and quarterly business meetings.
3. If comfortable, the Associate Pastor of Worship & Students may be asked to fill the pulpit.
4. Have a “whatever it takes” attitude towards ministry.
If the position is Worship & Discipleship/Outreach, the following would be the Discipleship/Outreach portion instead of the Students portion above.
The Associate Pastor of Worship & Discipleship/Outreach will develop a comprehensive Outreach & Discipleship ministry, seeking to facilitate the discipleship & spiritual growth of our church and also reach our neighbors and the nations with the Gospel.
a. Oversee the Small Group Bible Study ministry at FBC, including the recruitment, development, training, and equipping of teachers.
b. Oversee the Sunday Nights Together ministry at FBC, including recruiting and equipping adult teachers for groups.
c. Stay abreast on best practices, current trends, and available resources on Discipleship in the local church.
d. Develop a comprehensive outreach ministry that fulfills the missional mandate of Acts 1:8. Jerusalem = Fairview Heights, Judea = Metro East, Samaria = Regional/National, Ends of the Earth = International/Cross-cultural.
e. Equip church members to share their faith through training & resources, including tools like tracts or practices like Gospel Conversations.
f. Work with appropriate staff or leadership on church-wide outreach events (i.e., Trunk or Treat, Car Show, VBS) to ensure the community is engaged with the Gospel and is connected to our church.
