JOB DESCRIPTION:
Kirby Woods Baptist Church seeks a full-time Worship Pastor to lead, cultivate, and inspire a vibrant culture of worship throughout our church body. This role focuses primarily on developing a thriving music ministry while embracing all aspects of biblical worship and music. The Worship Pastor will build and oversee a music program that maximizes the congregation’s gifts, teaches theology through song, and employs music as a creative avenue to praise the Lord. This position is both a teaching ministry, conveying theology through music, and an artistic outlet to reveal God’s beauty. The candidate will act as a shepherd to the worship team and serve as one of the church’s pastors.
Kirby Woods Baptist Church is a multi-generational, blended congregation with approximately 300 active attendees on Sundays, a deaf congregation of roughly 50 members, and a Spanish-speaking congregation of a similar size, totaling between 400 and 450 active members. We currently hold one worship service featuring a mix of contemporary and traditional music, including new worship music and classic hymns from the Baptist Hymnal. Most of our music presently features a mix of loop tracks alongside live guitars, drums, and piano. In the future, there is a willingness to incorporate orchestral elements into the set. In the last several years, we have had praise choirs of 20-30 members on special occasions. Our ideal worship style aligns with Shane and Shane’s live Hymns album (listen to “Is He Worthy” Live for reference), characterized by strong vocal leadership, choral support, orchestral components, and a modern sound.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to select music and arrange the flow of all worship gatherings. Oversee production for all primary services.
- Lead rehearsals, train musicians and vocalists, and ensure the worship team has the necessary resources to thrive.
- Recruit and onboard worship team members.
- Foster a love and knowledge of music through choirs or similar ministries to train the next generation.
- Supervise and lead the sound, production, and tech teams.
- Develop and enforce standards, policies, and practices for the worship and tech teams.
- Plan song sets around biblical texts or themes.
- Inspire a church-wide culture of worship. Lead the congregation to sing out.
- Expand our music ministry from 4-5 songs per week, to a program.
Candidate Qualifications
- Exhibits biblical qualifications of a pastor (above reproach, godly character) as qualified by Scripture.
- Male, not divorced, and an active member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church (salvation, baptism, covenant, doctrinal agreement BFM 2000). Exhibits a masculine demeanor.
- Active participation in church life, including Sunday morning, evening, Wednesday programs, and special events.
- Formal music training and demonstrated proficiency in vocal skills; instrumental competency preferred.
- Strong leadership skills to manage and inspire a team.
- Knowledge of music theory and the ability to communicate with and lead sheet music readers.
- Theological depth to select songs that align with biblical teaching.
- Ability to organize and lead a choir.
- Knowledge of current worship leadership trends and a commitment to ongoing growth. Enjoys implementing new songs and listening to worship music in free time.
- Familiarity with timeless hymns (e.g., Baptist Hymnal) and ability to incorporate them regularly.
- Experience with loops and click tracks, as well as Planning Center Services.
- Commitment to creativity, improvement, and a “can-do” spirit.
- A master’s seminary degree is not required, but appreciated. Open to completing seminary.
COMPENSATION:
Base Salary + Full health insurance (BCBS TN) is available for the pastor, with family coverage also available for $150/month, including dental and vision insurance. Retirement contributions are based on a percentage of base salary.
